The LOC Hair Moisturizing Method

Hi Ladies, have you been experiencing dry unruly hair that no matter how many times you spritz in a day it never seems to retain moisture! well have you tried the LOC or the LCO moisturizing method!

What is the LOC method?

The LOC method is a way of moisturizing your  natural hair using a LIQUID   first, then and  OIL based product, followed by a  moisturizing CREAM based product.  There are other many ways of moisturizing your  natural hair for example LCO method which is using a  LIQUID first, moisturizing CREAM next, then seal with an OIL.  You can moisturize your hair whichever  way works best for your hair but both methods work great on natural hair.

How To Do The LOC Method

what you will need:

  1. Liquid which will be water in a spray bottle. You can also use a leave in conditioner as your liquid -> To add moisture to hair.
  2. Oil – it can be any oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil etc.  Use whichever oil you have -> To seal the moisture in your hair.
  3. Cream – it can be any moisturizing cream like shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie, Cantu Shea Butter curl cream, Nothing But Curl Pudding, hair milks, homemade whipped creams, leave in conditioner etc -> This is a second line of protection to make sure all moisture is sealed in your hair.
  4. Hair Clips -> To separate hair and hold your sections as you work through your hair

What to do:

1. Section your  hair into  manageable  sections using hair clips.

  2. On each section, spritz your hair with water until fully moist.  Then apply an oil of your choice to each  section,   Then take a sizable amount of  your cream of choice and apply to your hair smoothing the product  through till your hair feels soft and moisturized.

  3. You are done.  At this point you can continue with styling, you can do flat twist, cornrows, midium sized braid outs!!! whatever you like!

Benefits of LOC Moisturizing Method!

The LOC moisturizing method is a very effective way of moisturizing and retaining moisture in natural hair and has benefited many natural ladies including myself by just following the three easy steps. Although there are many ways of moisturizing natural hair, not all methods work for everyone but if you need a way to moisturize and retain moisture in your natural hair, why not give this a try!

My LOC products for  for the week  include water, Extra virgin olive oil and Shea moisture Curl enhancing smoothie. Will post pictures of my hair soon. Wish you all a lovely happy week.

My Natural Hair Regimen

Hallo ladies, hope you all having a lovely weekend!!
Today am gonna talk about my hair regimen which I promised to do but been a little busy lately so my apologies!
First things first! I know some of you have  asked me on my Hare Care FB page if do hair or if I have a hair salon, well not yet although I am thinking along that line!!!! but I do my own hair and sometimes one or two of my friends hair every once in a while. Am not a hair expert but I believe from my own experience  I am an expert in my own hair! Having been natural for a year and 8 months I know what products I can and cannot use on my hair, and at this point I love to care for my hair my way that I would really feel uncomfortable to go to a hair dresser, am sure some of you will agree with me on that sooner or later.

My regimen is pretty simple, although not exactly consistent because I do like to try new styles and different products every once in a while, I do certain things weekly which has really helped to make my natural hair journey enjoyable and fun.

My must have natural hair products and tools

1.Shampoo
2.Conditioner
3.Deep conditioning treatment
5.curl defining cream/gel
6.Sealant oil.
7.wide tooth comb and Den-man Brush
8.hair clips and hair bands
9.plastic deep conditioning cap
10.silky/satin sleeping bonnet

I know this looks like a very long list but some of these  this things are very essential to your hair regimen and are affordable and easy to use. This though are based on my own natural hair needs and have helped me get this far in my natural hair journey, some will tell you their list is endless but the important thing is to have what works best for you. we are all different and unique and so is our hair, so whatever works for you might not work for me or whatever works for me might not work for you. my hair regimen includes the following!

My weekly regimen

 1. I Shampoo my hair every once a week  to remove any product buildup over the week, initially I used to shampoo my hair twice a week or once a month "but like I said ITS IMPORTANT TO DO what works best for your hair and not what someone else does. Because my scalp always  felt so dry and itchy from all the product buildup by second week,  I started shampooing once a week and my scalp has thanked me since. Currently I use Suave naturals coconut shampoo to wash my hair, it works great for my hair, has a lovely fresh scent and enough form! little goes along way. It costs 325ksh at Nakumatt Galleria or Nakumatt Janction.

2. I Condition Wash my hair twice a week if necessary to do my wash and go, especially in hot weather or after doing a workout, this leaves my hair feeling fresh and well conditioned through out the week!I use suave naturals conditioners and tresemme naturals to do my wash and gos because they are water soluble silicon free which means i can rinse them with water only to avoid buildup! these are also available at nakumatt Junction and Chandarana shopping center!

3.I Deep Condition my hair once a week because my hair is color treated, this helps to keep my hair moisturized through the week and prevents breakage. This has worked for me well and will continue this as my hair regimen. there are many different deep conditioning treatments which are available and pocket friendly although I currently use three different types! the Cantu Shea Butter leave in conditioner, the IC Fantasia Deep Penetrating moisturizing treatment and the Cholesterol Tea Trea deep conditioning treatment. I love these three products and have been using them interchangeably   for a long time each time great results!

My DC Day!

On my DC day I begin my wetting my hair to loosen any product build up, I then rub a little shampoo in my hands and massage the product through my hair while massaging my scalp with my fingers! I do this to loosen any dirt in my hair,  I NEVER SCRATCH my  scalp with my nails!!! I just use the tip of my fingers to gently massage the dirt believe me its not that hard!!!!
Once I have rinced my hair and my scalp is clean,  I part my hair into 10 sections 5  on each side, hold each one with my butterfly clips, then I take my tools!!!  a wide tooth comb and den-man brush  to detangle.

I take each section, apply the deep conditioner by smoothing the product through my hair with my fingers starting from the tips and work through to the roots, feeling for any knots. I then use a wide tooth comb to comb through my strands followed by a den-man brush to brush through the entire section repeatedly then twist it up. I do this to all the sections of my hair.

I put on my plastic cap  and leave in the DC  for about an hour or two!
when rinsing the hair I unwind each twist and rinse using the scrunching method, this helps to keep my curls in-tacked and then I style my hair by either doing a twist out, or define my curls further for a curly wash and go!

Here are some pictures of my before and after DC! wish you all a lovely week

Important sources of natural remedies for a healthy you

Eating the right fats for your body and  your hair!

Essential fatty acids are very important for helping your body function properly, the best source of these are walnuts, flax -seeds, fish, avocado etc, these are very essential for our bodies and sometimes you can even use avocado to deep condition your hair, avocado was a common deep conditioner back in the day and even now still moisturizes and keeps our hair in good shape! Some natural oils are also excellent for our hair as they help to seal and retain moisture in our hair! Natural oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, Shea butter are very good for our hair as they help to keep hair moisturized and enhance growth!

                                                                      Olive oil

                                                                   Avocado

                                                                Coconut oil

                                                                 Shea butter

benefits of  vitamin C for you body and hair!

Collagen is very essential for growing healthy hair as it surrounds the hair strands and prevents breakage, the best way to boost collagen levels in our bodies is by eating foods that contain vitamin c especially citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, strawberries, kiwi. in fact kiwi contains much more vitamin c than oranges and lemons, I dint know that!!!!!

                                          Fruits fruits and more fruits!!!!!!

Boost Keratin Production with MSM!

Methylsulfonylmethane aids in the production of keratin (a protein in the hair) while doing double-duty to strengthen hair follicles. Resent  studies have shown that most people who supplement with MSM show reduced hair loss and increased  hair growth  in only six weeks. Eating veggies in general is a great way of keeping your body in good shape, and if your body is happy so is your hair!!

water water water water!!!!!!!!

There are a thousand and one benefits of drinking lots of water, water helps to keep our bodies clean inside out! flashes out unwanted toxins from our bodies, hydrates our skin and is natural hair's best friend! water is essential to having healthy skin and hair so drink up!!!!!!!!

There are so many things that are essential to our health that I haven't mentioned but keeping these few things in mind will no doubt boost your health and help you grow healthy beautiful hair! that doesn't mean that if you eat lots of veggies, fruits and drink water your hair will grow overnight!!!!!! it only means that if we take good care of our health from the inside it would reflect on the outside! YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!! so take good care of your beautiful natural self and have a fantastic week!!!!!!

Wash and go with Elasta QP Design Gel!

Hallo naturals, I did a wash and go with Elasta QP design gel and it turned out great! so i wanted to do a step by step! on how i achieved my super curly defined wash and go and I hope you will find this helpful as well.
Here is what the gel looks like in the picture below and you can find it at the Beauty Cosmetics or Beauty Options on Kimathi street Nairobi!!! and it goes for about 200ksh.

What you will need!

1. Depending on the length of your hair it would be easy to work with your hair in sections and this works for me and it would be easier and faster to apply your gel so you could use clips or hair bands or pins whichever works for you. I used these!

2. A spray or spritz bottle can come in handy especially if your hair starts to dry before you are done with your hair you can use just plain water to spray on your hair as you apply your gel. These are easily available in any Beauty stores or Supermarkets, Nakumatt Junction, westgate, etc am sure you will find one that works for you. They look something like this!

Once you have washed, conditioned, detangled, and sectioned your hair if you follow these easy steps am sure you will have your super defined wash and go in no time! Here is what I did!

1. I washed my hair with herbal essences Totally Twisted shampoo in the picture below, also available in Super Cosmetics in town, Price range between 200- 300ksh. It smell great and works well for my hair.

2. Conditioned and detangled with creme of nature extreme moisture conditioner, This is by far my favourite conditioned because it not only detangles my hair but also leaves it feeling super soft! i also use this as my deep conditioner and it works for me eeverytime! this is available at Nakumat Junction and it comes in a huge bottle about 1Liter costs 1400ksh.

3. I sectioned my hair into five sections, and worked from the back to the front and the whole application took me about 45 minutes! to achieve a good wash and go needs patience!!! It may not turn our perfect the first time but keep trying and you will find out what works best for you and your hair. I never go it right the first time either but now that i know which gel works great for me and which method is easy for me i can do a wash and go that will last 4-5 days and my hair still feels great!

I then took one section from the back, took my gel, and started smoothing with my fingers, as you smooth the gel through your hair with your fingers it will start to curl and it should look like this!

The following pictures show how i did my wash and go from beginning to end! I hope you will find this helpful and if you have any questions please feel free to comment or ask and i will be glad to help. Enjoy your natural hair!!!!!

Thanks for reading i hope you enjoyed the post and hope to put more posts soon.

HEY NATURALS!

Hey naturals, I know I have been away for a while but am back with some good stuff! Am now one year and three months natural and am loving my hair every step of the way! I haven't braided, or twisted my hair in a while and I have been wearing my hair in wash and go's most of the time. I did put some color in my hair but I love it as it brightens up my hair.

Although I love the color I have noticed that it can really dry my hair so I moisturize my hair more than I did without color on, all in all I love my hair and my curls are much more defined and easy to maintain. I do a wash and go every once a week and I will soon post my weekly regimen and the products that I use on my hair!and of course as promised more pictures coming up soon.
