My Natural Hair Regimen

Hallo ladies, hope you all having a lovely weekend!!
Today am gonna talk about my hair regimen which I promised to do but been a little busy lately so my apologies!
First things first! I know some of you have  asked me on my Hare Care FB page if do hair or if I have a hair salon, well not yet although I am thinking along that line!!!! but I do my own hair and sometimes one or two of my friends hair every once in a while. Am not a hair expert but I believe from my own experience  I am an expert in my own hair! Having been natural for a year and 8 months I know what products I can and cannot use on my hair, and at this point I love to care for my hair my way that I would really feel uncomfortable to go to a hair dresser, am sure some of you will agree with me on that sooner or later.

My regimen is pretty simple, although not exactly consistent because I do like to try new styles and different products every once in a while, I do certain things weekly which has really helped to make my natural hair journey enjoyable and fun.

My must have natural hair products and tools

1.Shampoo
2.Conditioner
3.Deep conditioning treatment
5.curl defining cream/gel
6.Sealant oil.
7.wide tooth comb and Den-man Brush
8.hair clips and hair bands
9.plastic deep conditioning cap
10.silky/satin sleeping bonnet

I know this looks like a very long list but some of these  this things are very essential to your hair regimen and are affordable and easy to use. This though are based on my own natural hair needs and have helped me get this far in my natural hair journey, some will tell you their list is endless but the important thing is to have what works best for you. we are all different and unique and so is our hair, so whatever works for you might not work for me or whatever works for me might not work for you. my hair regimen includes the following!

My weekly regimen

 1. I Shampoo my hair every once a week  to remove any product buildup over the week, initially I used to shampoo my hair twice a week or once a month "but like I said ITS IMPORTANT TO DO what works best for your hair and not what someone else does. Because my scalp always  felt so dry and itchy from all the product buildup by second week,  I started shampooing once a week and my scalp has thanked me since. Currently I use Suave naturals coconut shampoo to wash my hair, it works great for my hair, has a lovely fresh scent and enough form! little goes along way. It costs 325ksh at Nakumatt Galleria or Nakumatt Janction.

2. I Condition Wash my hair twice a week if necessary to do my wash and go, especially in hot weather or after doing a workout, this leaves my hair feeling fresh and well conditioned through out the week!I use suave naturals conditioners and tresemme naturals to do my wash and gos because they are water soluble silicon free which means i can rinse them with water only to avoid buildup! these are also available at nakumatt Junction and Chandarana shopping center!

3.I Deep Condition my hair once a week because my hair is color treated, this helps to keep my hair moisturized through the week and prevents breakage. This has worked for me well and will continue this as my hair regimen. there are many different deep conditioning treatments which are available and pocket friendly although I currently use three different types! the Cantu Shea Butter leave in conditioner, the IC Fantasia Deep Penetrating moisturizing treatment and the Cholesterol Tea Trea deep conditioning treatment. I love these three products and have been using them interchangeably   for a long time each time great results!

My DC Day!

On my DC day I begin my wetting my hair to loosen any product build up, I then rub a little shampoo in my hands and massage the product through my hair while massaging my scalp with my fingers! I do this to loosen any dirt in my hair,  I NEVER SCRATCH my  scalp with my nails!!! I just use the tip of my fingers to gently massage the dirt believe me its not that hard!!!!
Once I have rinced my hair and my scalp is clean,  I part my hair into 10 sections 5  on each side, hold each one with my butterfly clips, then I take my tools!!!  a wide tooth comb and den-man brush  to detangle.

I take each section, apply the deep conditioner by smoothing the product through my hair with my fingers starting from the tips and work through to the roots, feeling for any knots. I then use a wide tooth comb to comb through my strands followed by a den-man brush to brush through the entire section repeatedly then twist it up. I do this to all the sections of my hair.

I put on my plastic cap  and leave in the DC  for about an hour or two!
when rinsing the hair I unwind each twist and rinse using the scrunching method, this helps to keep my curls in-tacked and then I style my hair by either doing a twist out, or define my curls further for a curly wash and go!

Here are some pictures of my before and after DC! wish you all a lovely week
